St. Johns' Sunday School Program

9:00 AM Program

The 9:00 AM Sunday School program is a Workshop Rotation Program.

Touching the Past, Present, Future

With God's inspiration and guidance, St. Johns' Sunday School strives to touch the past, the present, and the future with its Workshop Rotation program.

  • We touch the past by using the old familiar stories from the Bible as the core of our curriculum.
  • We touch the present by utilizing modern technology and research to enhance the learning of these Bible stories by our students.
  • We touch the future by instilling Christian beliefs and values in our youth, so that they can become good people and leaders or our church.

Benefit of the Workshop Model

The Workshop Rotation model provides a multi-sensory approach that appeals to all learning styles. Having students experience a Bible story in a variety of ways will help them remember the story better.
According to Dr. David Sousa, author of "How the Brain Learns", our brain learns by taking in information through the five senses. The strength of each of those senses varies among people. Some people learn best by seeing information, while others learn best with hands-on activities. The Workshop Rotation Model aims to provide activities in the workshops that appeal to all learning styles.

How It Works

St. Johns' Workshop Rotation program is geared to students, grades K-7. Each month is devoted to one story from the Bible. The story is told in a slightly different way each week. The storytelling part of the program takes place during our 20-minute worship service in Children's Chapel, which also includes announcements, birthdays, a Bible verse, songs, offering, doxology, and the Lord's Prayer. The next 30 minutes of Sunday School is devoted to workshops. Workshops include drama, art, video, and computer. All projects in the workshops are directly related to the Bible story featured that month. Each week students rotate to a new workshop until they have participated in all of them by the end of the month.

10:30 Sunday School (starting Fall 2009)

The 10:30 Sunday school is made up of children from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade and they will be using a new curriculum designed for a multi-age group. "Season of the Spirit" is a lectionary-based curriculum, which means the children will be learning about the same scripture that is being used in worship. We will have music, crafts and story time (and snack) each week as we work our way through the Bible.
